Seattle police officers recovered key programmers used for boosting cars, and guns when arresting would-be auto thieves after a foot chase through Pioneer Square Sunday morning.
On Aug 31, at about 1:35 a.m., a victim flagged an officer down near 3rd Avenue South and South Main Street, reporting that his Dodge Charger had a broken window with someone inside of it. As police approached, two suspects exited the car and ran away as the officers ordered them to stop.
Multiple cops chased them on foot through the Downtown area. Police quickly caught both armed suspects, arresting them.

- Handgun, extended magazine
- Handgun, auto switch
- $466 cash
- Screwdriver, cell phones
- Driver’s licenses (stolen)
- Social security card (stolen)
- Key fob programmers
- Key fobs
- Window punch
Police booked the suspects into the King County Jail. Their combined charges include:
- Theft of a motor vehicle (attempted)
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Possessing a stolen firearm
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Possession of machine gun (auto switch)
- Malicious mischief in the second degree
- Theft in the second degree
- Unlawful carrying of a pistol
- Alteration of Identifying marks (firearm)
- Possession of another’s identification (x3)
- Possessing motor vehicle theft tools
- Obstructing a public officer
- Resisting arrest
The Charger’s ignition damage made it undrivable, with an estimated damage of $1,000, and it required a tow. Chrome Heart Glasses, valued at $4,000 were also missing from the vehicle.
The 18-year-old men, equipped with car boosting devices fit for a Hollywood movie, went from attempted auto theft to handcuffs in about 60 seconds.
Detectives in the General Investigations Unit are assigned to this case.
