Man Arrested for Knife Attack in Pioneer Square

Seattle police officers arrested a 53-year-old man for attacking two people with a knife in Pioneer Square this morning.

Just after midnight, patrol officers responded to reports of an assault outside of a bar in the 100 block of South Washington Street. There, officers found two victims with knife lacerations. The Seattle Fire Department arrived and treated the victims. First responders transported them to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

Police determined that the suspect got into an altercation with a bar employee after being denied alcohol and drugs. Wielding a knife, the suspect slashed the 45-year-old employee, causing significant injuries to her face. When a bystander, 35, attempted to intervene, the suspect slashed his face, causing significant injuries.

Police found the fleeing suspect and arrested him. They also recovered a bloody knife. While in custody, the man used racial slurs to antagonize and threaten a group of bystanders. Police also learned that he may have used a homophobic slur before assaulting the woman.

Officers booked the suspect into the King County Jail for two counts of felony Assault.

Detectives in the Homicide and Assault Unit are assigned to this case.
