Detectives Investigating Shooting Outside Pioneer Square Nightclub

Detectives are investigating a shooting that seriously injured a 27-year-old man early Saturday outside a Pioneer Square nightclub.

At about 1:45 a.m., officers assigned to the Joint Enforcement Team (JET) were near a nightclub in the 100 block of South Washington Street when they heard several gunshots. Officers responded and contacted an on-site security guard who witnesses said had fired his weapon.

Police detained the 25-year-old security guard without incident after he dropped his firearm and removed his ballistic vest. Additional officers found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers provided medical aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives responded to process the scene, interview the suspect at Seattle Police Headquarters, and speak with the victim at the hospital.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
