The Seattle police SWAT team arrested a 28-year-old man last night after a lengthy standoff in West Queen Anne beginning yesterday afternoon.
On Nov. 4, at about 4:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of threats in the 2200 block of 15th Avenue West. Officers found that a resident made threats to kill another resident while armed with a knife.
At about 6:15 p.m., the man exited his apartment wearing body armor and a Kevlar helmet. Police attempted to take him into custody, yet he rushed into a nearby stairwell and began stabbing the door with a knife. Eventually, the suspect retreated back into his apartment, barricading himself inside.
Shortly thereafter, police negotiators arrived to communicate with the man into surrendering. The SWAT team also team arrived. Officers applied for a search warrant, and SWAT arrested the suspect without incident at about 8:25 p.m.
Police recovered multiple knives, body armor, and a Kevlar helmet as evidence.
While in custody, the suspect reportedly bit, kicked, and spat on officers. Police booked him into the King County Jail for multiple felonies and a $2,500 warrant for assault.
