At 0023 hours, officers responded to the 400 block of Minor Avenue North for an assault. Upon investigation, officers learned the suspect directed racial slurs towards staff and threatened to kill and burn them. An unrelated resident walked by and the suspect used racial slurs towards them and assaulted them with a cane. Staff intervened and the suspect continued to use racial slurs towards them and assaulted them with his cane as well. Police attempted contact with the suspect, and he refused to exit his apartment. A search warrant was drafted and signed and upon entry into the apartment the suspect gave up and was taken into custody without incident and booked into KCJ. Video evidence was collected, and scene was processed by patrol. 243, HNT, SWAT, PIO, Bias Crime Coordinator, and Violent Crimes Captain were notified.

At 0837 hours, officers responded to the location to investigate a report of harassment. Upon investigation, officers learned the suspect threatened to shoot the victim with a gun. The suspect told the victim he was doing this because of the victim’s race. No weapon was seen. An area check was conducted, but the suspect was not located. Officers gathered relevant video evidence of the suspect via AXON Citizen Link. 221, PIO, Bias Crime Coordinator, Homicide and the Violent Crimes Captain were notified.

At 0755 hours, officers were dispatched to a bank robbery at a bank located in the 600 block of S Jackson Street. An employee arrived at work and was immediately confronted by a masked suspect armed with a firearm. The suspect entered the business with the employee and demanded that she unlock the bank vault. The employee advised she didn’t have access and the suspect quickly fled the scene on foot. Robbery Detectives responded to interview the victim, and the scene was processed.

At 1600 hours, officers responded to a school in the 9600 block 35 Ave SW for a report of a threat being made. Staff reported an 8th grade student approached a lower grade student and made a statement about there being a school shooting next week. The suspect walked away but returned a short time later calming a more specific date of the incident. The witness did not know the older student and reported the incident/statements to staff. Staff identified the student who made the statements and questioned her. That student admitted to making the statements but indicated it was only a joke. The student’s parent responded to the school and was advised of the incident and subsequent suspension of her child. Officers spoke with school staff, the witness student/parent, and the offending student’s parent. The parent confirmed there are no firearms in the home and are aware of the school decision to suspend the student.

At 1422 hours, Seattle Police Department Harbor Patrol requested assistance with locating two kayakers who were swept under the Ballard Locks. Both North and West Precinct Officers responded to try to get a visual on the kayakers. Harbor Patrol was able to rescue one of the kayakers, a 62-year-old man from the water who was later treated and released by Seattle Fire Department. The other kayaker a 35-year-old man was recovered near Commodore Park despite lifesaving attempts he was pronounced deceased on the scene.

At 2134 hours, officers were dispatched to a call in which a male left a voicemail at a synagogue threatening kill its members. Officers contacted the suspect over the phone and were able to identify him. Officers responded to the suspect’s residence and successfully took him into custody for the hate crime.
