At 0208 hours, West Precinct Patrol Officers responded to the 2100 block of Western Avenue to investigate a reported assault. A group of males had allegedly grabbed a female and assaulted her male friend as he attempted to intervene. As Officers were arriving, they were contacted by witnesses and directed up the street to where the suspects had entered two vehicles. Officers also learned that at least one firearm was involved in the incident and that the suspects had attempted to take a phone from a witness. Both vehicles fled the scene. The vehicle containing the armed suspect and the suspect who attempted to take the phone was a white Cadillac sedan and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. An attempt to stop the vehicle was made, however the vehicle eluded. The vehicle continued to drive recklessly and visual was lost. Approximately 10 minutes later Washington State Patrol notified SPD of a collision on Interstate 5 (I5) involving the suspect vehicle. The vehicle that was hit by the suspect vehicle was a Tesla and one of the occupants suffered a minor shoulder injury and possibly minor concussion.  One occupant remained on scene while the others fled in what appears to be the 2nd vehicle involved in the original incident. That suspect was positively identified by a witness as one of the suspects in the assault, but not the suspect who brandished the firearm. The suspect was taken into custody for assault 4. The suspect taken into custody identified the other involved parties, all of whom are active-duty United States Navy personnel. Their chain of command was notified, and at the time of the writing of this SIR attempts are being made to locate the remaining suspects via that route. SPD is handling the original offense and WSP is handling the collision on I5. This incident was screened through both Robbery and TCIS.
