Man With $210K in Warrants Arrested for Driving Stolen SUV

Seattle police officers arrested a 25-year-old man with multiple felony warrants driving a stolen vehicle in the Belltown neighborhood this morning.

On Dec 29, just after midnight, an SPD officer saw a man driving an Audi SUV with a license plate belonging to a Volkswagen Jetta. Believing the vehicle to be stolen, the officer attempted a traffic stop, but the man fled from him, violating multiple traffic laws.

Police reached out to the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) and an analyst found video footage of the SUV driving at a high rate-of-speed through Belltown and going the wrong way down Bell Street.

This morning, the same officer spotted the same vehicle and the now identified suspect near 1st Avenue and Bell Street.

Police found over $210,000 in warrants for his arrest:

  • $150,000 Escape warrant
  • $45,000 Attempted Burglary warrant
  • $10,000 Burglary warrant
  • $5,050 Burglary warrant

When attempting to catch up to the SUV, the officer lost sight of the vehicle again. Shortly thereafter, officers found the stolen car abandoned in a nearby parking lot.

Again, officers requested the RTCC to look for footage of the man leaving the area. RTCC found the suspect and sent a picture to officers that matched the driver.

Police quickly found the man at a nearby park and arrested him. In his pockets, officers recovered an Audi car key and stolen property belonging to the vehicle’s registered owner.

Police booked the suspect into the King County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and multiple felony warrants. Officers impounded the SUV from the scene.

Detectives in the General Investigations Unit are assigned to this case.
