Detectives are investigating a shooting early Saturday morning near Chinatown-International District neighborhood that left a 27-year-old man seriously injured.
At about 2:45 a.m., dispatchers received reports of shots fired near 12th Avenue South and South Main Street following a large disturbance after the closure of a nearby hookah lounge. Officers arrived and contacted a 34-year-old man, the business owner, who reported firing his handgun to break up the disturbance.
Police transported the owner to Seattle Police Headquarters, where detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) interviewed him. Officers later released him.
Shortly after officers arrived on scene, they learned the victim had walked into Swedish Hospital with injuries consistent with a shotgun blast. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
Officers determined an unidentified suspect armed with a shotgun shot the victim in a parking lot across the street from the hookah lounge. Detectives have not determined how the shooting is connected to the disturbance. No suspect is in custody.
GVRU detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
