Seattle police detectives are investigating a delayed death homicide of a 40-year-old man that died on Thursday.
On Oct. 8, 2025, patrol officers responded to a shooting near Cheasty Boulevard South and South Winthrop Street. There, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Police and firefighters provided medical treatment, and medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
On Jan. 15, the victim died from the injuries he sustained in the shooting, per the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
This is an open and active case assigned to homicide detectives.

Seattle police officers are investigating the shooting of a 40-year-old man in South Seattle last night.
On Oct. 8, just after 11:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting near South Winthrop Street and Cheasty Boulevard South. There, officers found a man with significant injuries to his head and face from a suspected gunshot wound.
The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and provided medical treatment to the victim. SFD transported the man to Harborview Medical Center.
Patrol officers processed the scene, took photographs, and recovered ballistic evidence. There is no known suspect information at this time.
