A Seattle police officer was injured last night after getting into a struggle with a felon on federal probation.
On Jan 28, just before 9:00 p.m., officers patrolling the 3600 block of 33rd Avenue South located a car with no license plates illegally parked between two disabled spaces.
Before getting out of the vehicle, the driver appeared to remove a gun from his waistband and hide it on the floorboard. The driver told officers that he only had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
Officers found the open container of tequila and saw the gun. When detaining the suspect, the suspect struggled with officers’ attempts to handcuff him. Police deployed a taser. One of the officers got injured during the arrest.
The suspect is a recently convicted felon for assault, and is currently on federal probation for firearm, drug trafficking, and heroin charges. He is prohibited from having guns.
Police booked the 35-year-old suspect into King County Jail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. They impounded the vehicle pending a search warrant to recover the gun.
The SPD officer needed medical treatment at the hospital. He is expected to recover.
