Update: Detectives Seek Assistance in Rainier Beach Double Homicide

Seattle Police Homicide Detectives are asking for the public’s help investigating the murders of two teenagers, students at Rainier Beach High School, on Jan. 30.

Detectives believe Tyjon Stewart, 18, and Traveiah Houfmuse, 17, were directly targeted when they were shot at a bus stop near Rainier Avenue South and South Henderson Street.

The victims were shot by a gunman exiting a King County Metro bus. Police would like to speak with passengers who had been on the Route 106 bus with the gunman.

“We want to speak with the crowd waiting at the bus stop as well as passengers on the bus,” said SPD Det. David Simmons. “There were dozens of students from local schools at the stop when the victims were shot.”

The shooting occurred just before 4 p.m., right after students had gotten out of school for the day.

“Our detectives continue to work diligently and with unwavering dedication to bring those responsible for this tragic and senseless act to justice, and we will not rest until we do. I want to urge anyone who may have information related to the deaths of these two individuals to please come forward,” said Assistant Chief Nicole Powell.
