Seattle police detectives are investigating a traffic crash that killed a 27-year-old woman in Capitol Hill this evening.
At 8:00 p.m., officers responded to a pedestrian collision on Bellevue Avenue East and East Pine Street. There, they found a woman with apparent fatal injuries stuck underneath a Toyota Prius.
The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived, extricated the pedestrian from underneath the car, and began medical treatment. Despite all life-saving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and SFD pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Police determined that the driver made a right turn from Bellevue Avenue, westbound, onto Pine street when his vehicle struck the woman walking across Pine Street either on or near the crosswalk.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated him and found no signs of impairment. Officers did not arrest him.
Police cordoned off the area and detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) arrived and processed the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner will take custody of the deceased. Anyone with information is asked to call TCIS at 206-684-8923.
