At 0547 hours, reports were received of a Hit and run in the 1700 block of MLK Jr. Way South. The vehicle was southbound on MLK Jr. Way South and failed to turn right onto South Massachusetts, which resulted in driving through a front yard and bumping into the corner of a townhouse. The subjects of the vehicle fled the scene in another vehicle. The occupants of the house were not injured. As officers waited for a tow truck to remove the vehicle, the laundry room of the residence erupted into flames. Officers quickly evacuated the occupants of the house and requested Seattle Fire Department (SFD). SFD shut off the natural gas supply and extinguished the fire. SFD determined the collision caused a gas line leakage inside the exterior wall.
