Seattle police arrested a 47-year-old man after he burglarized a home, ran from police, and changed his clothes.
On Tuesday afternoon, police went to the 1800 block of East Hamlin Street in the Montlake neighborhood after a 15-year-old called 911 about a man in his backyard. The child’s father returned home and confronted the suspect, who was going through the family’s shed and had pulled out items like a golf club set, electric skateboard, and a generator. The suspect had also torn down the outdoor security cameras.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived; however, he returned while police were interviewing the victims and peaked his head over their fence.
Officers chased after the suspect, who ran through the neighborhood, hopped a fence and fled down a steep embankment. Police searched the area until they found the suspect and arrested him, but this time he was in a different set of clothes.
K9 Officer Frodo (pictured below) searched for evidence along the suspect’s path and found his shirt and hat that he was wearing during the burglary.
Officers booked the 47-year-old man into King County Jail for burglary.
Detectives from the General Investigations Unit will be conducting the follow-up investigation.
