Seattle Police are investigating a shooting that happened just after 5:30 p.m. in South Seattle.
Plainclothes Seattle Police officers were investigating leads on another case when someone in a stolen vehicle that police were following shot at officers. The undercover police vehicle was hit by gunfire multiple times, fortunately officers were not struck by bullets and officers did not fire back.
After the gunfire, which occurred at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Cloverdale Street, officers pursued the suspect vehicle through South Seattle. The suspect vehicle finally came to a stop after crashing into another car near 51st Avenue South and South Ryan Street. The motorist whose car was struck was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The three suspects ran from their car after the crash, one attempted to carjack another driver. Officers soon arrested all three suspects. Two individuals were taken to Harborview Medical Center and a third was taken to Seattle Police Headquarters.
A Seattle police officer was hospitalized for an injury that was sustained while attempting to arrest the suspects.
Officers do not believe the person of interest they were looking for was in the suspect vehicle. It remains under investigation what prompted the gunfire on the undercover police vehicle.
The suspect vehicle had been reported stolen from South King County. Officers found a rifle and a handgun inside the vehicle.
