Police Recover Stolen Car After Finding Man Asleep at the Wheel

Officers arrested a 28-year-old man on Tuesday after they found him passed out behind the wheel of a stolen car in South Seattle.

Around 3:45 PM, police received reports of a motorist slumped over in the driver’s seat of a Honda Accord in the 5900 block of Swift Avenue South.

Officers arrived and roused the man, who provided police with a fake name when they began asking questions about the obviously-tampered-with ignition and wires protruding from where a stereo had once been. Officers discovered the vehicle was stolen–mismatched license plates on front and rear of the vehicle were a big clue—and arrested the man, who was also carrying an altered car key typically used by vehicle thieves, as well as an ID and bank card belonging to other people.

Police booked the man into the King County Jail for possession of stolen property.
