Detectives are also releasing the transcripts of the involved officers interviews. Officer Anderson is not depicted in the diagram since his position was in the doorway to the apartment.

Hallway video: Video of the 24 hour period leading up to the officer involved shooting that shows the hallway outside of the apartment. The video plays at 4 times the actual speed, but no portion has been removed.
911 call placed by Charleena Lyles: The following audio is from the 911 call placed by Charleena Lyles at 8:55 a.m Sunday June 18th.

Force investigation detectives have released additional files in the investigation of the June 18th officer involved shooting that took the life of Charleena Lyles. The embedded video is the dashcam video and the hallway video outside of the woman’s apartment.
Detectives have also released a transcript of the dashcam video.
The Seattle Police Department is also releasing the report of the June 5th contact that Charleena had with officers mentioned in the above video.

Consistent with policy, SPD is releasing an audio file of today’s officer involved shooting. While recognizing that the release of information can be source of tension during active, ongoing investigations, SPD also believes that transparency throughout the investigation of deadly force incidents is essential to maintaining public trust.
The audio file was captured by the officers’ dashcam video system, which was operational in the patrol cars of both responding officers.
While property crimes reports typically require only one officer to be dispatched, two officers were dispatched to this particular call for service because of a recent officer safety caution associated with the caller.
Both officers were equipped with less lethal force options, per department policy. All Seattle police officers receive Crisis Intervention Training.
The audio file depicts the conversation between the officers just prior to contacting the caller as they discuss the history of the residence and their concerns. The audio also captured some of the interaction with the caller prior to the rapid development of the use of force incident. Please note that all names as well as the caller’s address and telephone number have been redacted.
The Force Investigation Team has approved this release, but cautions that the investigation is still in an early stage.

Detectives are currently conducting their investigation surrounding the circumstances of a fatal officer involved shooting Sunday morning in the Sand Point neighborhood.
Shortly before 10:00 am Sunday, two North Precinct patrol officers responded to a report of a waiting burglary call in an apartment building in the 6800 block of 62nd Avenue NE. Although this was a typical burglary report, two officers were required due to information pertaining to this address that presented an increased risk to officers. Officers arrived and went to the fourth floor to meet with the complainant. Officers were confronted by a 30-year-old woman armed with a knife. Both officers fired their duty weapons, striking the woman. The officers immediately performed first aid while the Seattle Fire Department responded, but the fire department declared the woman deceased once they arrived.
There were several children inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured. They are being cared for by other family members at this time.
In accordance with SPD policy designed in collaboration with the Department of Justice, detectives from the Force Investigation Team (FIT) and SPD Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) responded to the scene, along with representatives from the Office of Professional Accountability, to collect evidence and review the incident.
FIT detectives will investigate the force used by both police officers. CSI detectives will support the investigation by processing the scene for forensic evidence.
Both officers who discharged their weapons during the incident will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, in accordance with department protocol.
