Three women and two men were arrested Friday afternoon for an assault on an officer, failure to disperse, obstructing and resisting arrest following a protest in the 1500 block of 4th Avenue.
Seattle Police bicycle officers responded to a demonstration this afternoon outside Century Square downtown. At one point during the demonstration, approximately 100 individuals were protesting. Officers spoke with organizers of the demonstration who agreed to move their protest to Westlake Park and get out of the street. As officers were escorting the group to the park, some of the demonstrators chose to stop in the intersection, blocking traffic. Officers issued a dispersal order over the public address system, but the group blocking the intersection refused to move. At one point there was a brief struggle between officers and several of the protesters, which resulted in the arrest of the five individuals. One officer sustained an ankle injury during the scuffle.
The five arrested individuals were later booked into the King County Jail.
