On January 10th at approximately 11:55 p.m. officers saw the suspect, who was driving a silver Dodge Durango, strike a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at 23 Avenue and East Yesler Way and flee the scene. Officers attempted to stop the suspect but he refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed eastbound on Yesler Way. In the 3200 block of Yesler Way the suspect lost control of his vehicle, struck the concrete base of an artist landmark and flipped over. The suspect vehicle then caught on fire. Arriving officers extinguished the fire and extracted the suspect and the passenger from the vehicle. Both adult male occupants of the Dodge were transported to Harborview Medical Center by SFD with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was evaluated for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He remains under treatment in the hospital pending charges. The victim driver from the hit and run collision was not injured (an adult male and the sole occupant of the vehicle) and his Toyota pickup truck sustained minor damage. No officers were injured during this incident. Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) Detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
