Burglary/Auto theft in Columbia City

On June 11th at 3:49 a.m. South Precinct patrol officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 6000 block of 48th Avenue S.  The residents woke up to the sound of a lone male suspect rummaging through their dresser drawers.  The suspect took the victims’ car keys, left the house and drove away in the victims’ car.

Responding officers located and stopped the car in the 3600 block of S Raymond Street.  The car had two occupants.  The young adult male driver got out of the car and ran from the scene.  The 17-year-old male passenger was arrested without incident.

A K9 officer tracked the driver but could not prevent his escape.  Officers believe that the driver was the person the victims saw in their home.  The 17-year-old male passenger was transported to the South Precinct for questioning and was later released to his mother.  South Precinct Burglary detectives will conduct the follow up investigation.
