Officer Assaulted near 4th N. and Mercer

On 1/1/10, at approx. 1230 a.m., a traffic officer was working his traffic post at 4th Ave N/Mercer St. because of the New Year’s Eve celebration at the Seattle Center.  While on post, he observed two suspects assaulting a Metro bus driver. 

The officer contacted the two suspects and a struggle ensued.  Both suspects assaulted the traffic officer.  During the struggle the officer was knocked to the ground and he injured his right knee and shoulder.  The suspects fled on foot. 

While units were responding, the traffic officer was able to broadcast an excellent description of both suspects and their last direction of travel.  One suspect was apprehended at Mercer & Westlake.  The other suspect was apprehended at 5th N./Mercer St. 

Both suspects were positively identified by an independent witness. 

The officer was transported to Harborview Medical Center  for his injuries.   The suspects ( a father and son team)were subsequently booked into King County Jail for felony assault.
