Officer-involved collision on Capitol Hill

On May 29th at approximately 11:59 a.m. a Washington State Patrol trooper was engaged in a physical fight with a suspect on the Montlake on-ramp to eastbound State Route 520.  The trooper requested a “Help the Officer” over his police radio, the highest priority request for officer assistance.

Multiple Seattle Police patrol officers were responding to the trooper’s location when two Seattle Police patrol cars collided in the area of 12th Avenue East and East John Street.  Both patrol cars were single-officer units, and both involved officers (one male and one female) were subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 3:30 p.m., both officers were released from the hospital after receiving treatment.  There were no other vehicles involved in the collision.

A city light pole was struck by one of the involved patrol cars, and City Light personnel responded to address the damaged light pole.

Seattle Police Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
