On April 24th at approximately 12:22 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle in the 9800 block of Renton Avenue South for running a red light. Just as the suspect vehicle came to a stop two male suspects (the driver and front seat passenger) exited the vehicle and took off running. Officers gave chase and observed both suspects enter the back door of a house in the 9600 block of 53rd Avenue South (officers were not sure if the suspects had forced entry into the home or not).
Additional officers responded to the scene and surrounded the house. Officers used their patrol car’s public address system to broadcast for all persons inside the house to exit. Two females exited the house, one adult female and the other believed to be in her late teens (later determined to be a mother and her daughter).
The adult female gave consent to search the residence. Officers subsequently entered the residence and located both male suspects who had run from them. Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident and transported to the South Precinct for questioning.
While searching the house officers discovered a five gallon bucket of cut marijuana. The drugs were seized and placed into evidence (there was no indication that the house was being used for a grow operation). Officers took statements from both of the females and released them back to their residence.
Officers also observed marijuana in plain view inside the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and taken to the evidence garage where it will be processed and searched after obtaining a warrant.
Both suspects are currently under arrest and are being interviewed at the South Precinct. They both appear to be in their late teens. Their final disposition has yet to be determined pending further investigation.
This remains an active and on-going investigation.
