An officer was at 4th and Pine shortly after midnight when he heard at least four gunshots and saw several people running from Westlake Park. The officer advised radio of the incident and several other witnesses called 911. Additional officers responded to the area. Officers saw several men in a verbal argument that looked like it was about to turn physical. The four men were detained and questioned. None of the men were in possession of a firearm, and did not want to pursue any police involvement. The men were allowed to leave.
A description of a possible suspect was broadcast over radio stating that he was last seen heading south. Security officers working in the 1300 Block of 5th Avenue reported seeing a male climbing on top of a roof. Officers responded and contacted a 22 year old man. A records check showed that he had a Department of Corrections (DOC) felony warrant, which was later verified. He also had in his possession a spring loaded knife. Officers found a handgun magazine with several bullets, and several baggies of marijuana in the immediate area of where the suspect was contacted. Officers also located spent shell casings in Westlake Park, near where witnesses stated the shots were fired. It appears that the spent shell casings match the bullets found in the magazine. The suspect was arrested and later booked into the King County Jail on his outstanding warrant. Officers could not locate any victims or damaged property as a result of the shots fired.
