A man was caught in the act of breaking into the yard and possibly the storage building of St. Vincent de Paul’s located in the 5900 Block of 4th Avenue South yesterday evening.
At around 6:00 pm, officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at that location. When officers arrived, they located the man inside the secured fenced area standing next to a ladder. Officers instructed the man to climb back over the ladder and fence to where they were standing. The man admitted that he was not an employee, and had indeed removed items from the yard that did not belong to him. The man was placed under arrest.
Officers searched the area and discovered a large bin full of power tools, hand tools, propane torches and other boxes packed with items from the business stacked near the ladder. Officer also discovered a broken lock to a storage annex within the secured confines of the yard. The 30-year-old man was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary. Detectives will handle the follow up investigation.
