Car Crashes Into Building In Lake City

A woman was rushed to the hospital after she lost control of her car and crashed into a building in North Seattle this afternoon.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. officers responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into a building in the 11000 block of Lake City Way NE.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a woman in her 60’s was driving her VW Bug northbound in a parking lot in the 10900 block of Lake City Way NE.  For reasons yet to be determined, she accelerated out of control, jumped an embankment, crossed five lanes of traffic on Lake City Way NE, jumped the curb on the east side of the street, went over a rock embankment and struck an office building.

SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the woman to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  She was the only occupant of the VW.

Amazingly, no other persons were injured and no other vehicles were struck during the incident.

There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
