A suspect is behind bars today following an early morning burglary and foot chase to a North Seattle apartment complex.
Just before 5:00 am, a resident called 911 to report seeing a man climb up her balcony to the apartment above in the 1900 Block of NE 85th Street. As officers were arriving, they saw the male suspect climbing down from the third story. Officers could see that the man was wearing a backpack. The suspect jumped to the ground from the second story and began running. Officers gave chase, and the suspect refused the officers’ orders to stop. Other officers arrived in the area and set up containment. The suspect was spotted running through several yards and was eventually taken into custody several blocks away. Further investigation by the officers determined that the suspect had indeed entered an occupied apartment on the third floor through an unlocked sliding glass door. Despite a lengthy search by officers, the suspect’s backpack was not located. Officers processed the apartment and collected several fingerprints. It is unclear if anything was taken from the apartment at this point. The 55-year-old suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary. Detectives will now handle the follow up investigation.
