A woman was struck by shrapnel during a gun battle in Othello park. On 5/14/14, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the victim was in Othello Park (7300 block of 45 Av S) with her husband and four children when multiple shots rang out. Witnesses heard the shots and saw two black males firing guns at each other.
The victim appeared to be in the cross fire and sustained possible injuries from shrapnel on her arm, neck and face. The victim was carrying her infant child at the time. The infant did not sustain any injuries. A parked unoccupied vehicle sustained a blown out rear window from a bullet projectile. S/1 got into a dark SUV and fled the scene. S/2 was seen running westbound and hid a gun in a drainage pipe. Patrol units arrived instantly and secured the crime scene.
Gang Unit detectives responded and processed the evidence. Casings were recovered along with a handgun.
The suspects were described as (1) Black male, wearing a red shirt and black pants (2) Black male, late teens, wearing dark shorts.
The victim, a 34- year- old female sustained a shallow puncture wound from shrapnel.
