Police are looking for two men who smashed windows of dozens of vehicles in South Lake Union early this morning in a suspected car prowl spree.
A South Lake Union resident called police just after 3 AM and said two men armed with a baseball bat and crowbar were smashing the windows of vehicles parked in a large lot in the 2000 block of Westlake Avenue North.
Officers arrived less than 10 minutes after receiving the first 911 call, but the suspects had already fled in a white Trans Am. Police searched the neighborhood, but were unable to locate the suspects or their Trans Am.
At the scene, officers found the suspects had shattered the windows of at least 34 vehicles parked in the lot. Police believe the suspects may have also stolen items from inside many of the vehicles.
A witness told police both suspects were carrying skateboards, and said one man was wearing a hat, grey sweatshirt and khaki pants. The second suspect was reportedly dressed in a black sweatshirt and baggy black shorts.
Police are working to collect as much evidence as possible for investigators and need to hear from victims in order to fully document the damage done and items taken from each vehicle.
If your car was broken into during this morning’s incident, please call 911 to make a report. You can also file a report through SPD’s Community Online Reporting Program if the damage and loss is less than $1500.
