A 22-year-old man was critically wounded early Thursday after he was stabbed during a large brawl, involving as many as 10 people, in the University District.
Witnesses reported seeing a large fight near NE 42nd and University Way NE around 12:15 AM after a group of intoxicated men confronted a man and a woman on the street. The two groups exchanged words, and then blows, as they moved south on University Way.
During the fighta man in the first group reportedly shoved a woman from the second group and threatened to sexually assault her. In response, the woman pulled a knife from her coat and tried to stab the man. She missed, and a 22-year-old man stepped in to break up the fight. The woman stabbed the 22-year-old in the chest and fled the scene.
Police arrived and found the wounded man lying on the ground and called for medics.
The wounded man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police are now searching for the woman, described as white female in her 20s, 5’8-5’10, wearing an oversized olive green jacket. She reportedly fled the scene of the incident with a three-legged pit bull dog in tow.
