What do Ford Mustangs, green bell peppers and police have in common? All three were on the receiving end of a one-man rampage early Sunday at a parking garage on Capitol Hill.
A witness called 911 at 1:30 Sunday morning when the man wandered into a parking garage in the 1400 block of 12 Ave. Once inside the garage, the man reportedly started checking car door handles and eventually threw a garbage can and hand dolly into a Ford Mustang, causing almost $4,000 in damage.
The 33-year-old suspect then broke into a walk-in freezer in the garage, where continued his smashing spree, singling out a $50 batch of green bell peppers for destruction.
When police arrived, the suspect tried to flee. When one officer attempted to subdue the man as he walked through a doorway, the suspect slammed the door on the officer, who was still able to prevent the man from escaping.
Officers were able to get the suspect in handcuffs and booked him into King County Jail for property destruction. Police don’t yet know what sparked his Sunday morning outburst.
