A 21-year-old man is in custody following an early morning robbery attempt in the University District.
At approximately 1:45 am Thursday morning, officers responded to several 911 calls of an attempt robbery and assault on the street at NE 42nd Street and University Way NE. The 39-year-old victim was approached by a group of eight to ten males. One of the suspects punched and kicked the victim and then attempted to take his cell phone. The suspects were not able to get the victim’s phone and fled the area when a witness threatened to call 911. Officers arrived quickly and stopped a vehicle leaving the area. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect that struck him. A witness was also able to identify the suspect as the one who assaulted the victim. The 21-year-old suspect was arrested and later booked into the King County Jail. The victim was treated for his injuries at the hospital.
Robbery detectives are assigned this case and will continue to investigate.
