Officers arrested a man Tuesday after he robbed a Brighton neighborhood store at knifepoint.
A store clerk in the 6600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South called 911 Tuesday night just before 8 p.m. to report that the store he works at had been robbed at knife point. The 32-year-old man said the suspect entered the store, pulled out a knife, and told the clerk to “be cool.” The suspect then stole 10 packs of cigarettes before fleeing. The clerk chased the suspect and saw him drive away in a red Chevrolet Aveo.
Officers responded and spoke with the victim who provided them with a license plate number for the suspect’s car. Officers went to the registered address for the car and found it parked in the alley. While officers were planning on how to approach the home a man matching the description given by the victim exited the home and attempted to drive away. Officers stopped the car and arrested the 43-year-old suspect. Officers searched the man and found a new package of cigarettes and a knife.
Officers booked the man into King County jail for investigation of robbery.
