Teen Arrested For Cellphone Robbery in Wedgwood

Officers and a K9 team tracked down a teenaged robber Wednesday night in Wedgwood after he stole two cellphones from a woman and tried to hide in a greenbelt.

The victim was walking near 35th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 82nd Street just before 8pm when the teen grabbed the phones from her hand and fled down the block. The woman chased after the teen, and was joined by several other bystanders, until they lost sight of him near NE 40th St and 88th Ave NE.

When K9 Pele and Officer TJ San Miguel arrived on scene and began announcing their presence, the teen fled to Matthew’s Beach Park where he was spotted by another officer and taken into custody.

The suspect was carrying a cellphone–he’d apparently dropped the other one along the way–which rang when police called the phone number provided by the victim.

Officers booked the suspect into the King County Youth Services Center for robbery.
