Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are conducting the follow-up investigation after responding to a serious vehicle/pedestrian collision this morning at 15th Avenue South and South Spokane Street. An 86-year-old female pedestrian sustained serious injuries and the 48-year-old male driver was later arrested after he exhibited signs of impairment.
On Tuesday, February 19th, at approximately 9:15 am, a 2015 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on 15th Avenue South approaching South Spokane Street. The Fusion’s driver was a 48-year-old male, and he was accompanied by an adult female passenger. The Fusion crossed into the oncoming northbound lanes of traffic and up onto the east sidewalk. The front of the Fusion struck the 86-year-old pedestrian walking southbound on the sidewalk, before coming to a stop. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries. Neither occupant of the car was injured.
Seattle Police and Fire were called to the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital. Police evaluated the driver at the scene and believed he was impaired by drugs. Officers arrested the driver, and a legal blood draw was conducted at a hospital after a warrant was obtained. The driver was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault.
TCIS detectives responded to the call and processed the scene. The road has since reopened to traffic. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
