Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) detectives are handling the investigation following a two vehicle, serious injury collision that left several injured Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 5:10 pm a Toyota Sienna mini van was travelling northbound on Airport Way South when it began to make a left turn near Alaska Street. A Nissan Altima, driven by a 26-year-old female, was attempting to pass the mini van at a high rate of speed and collided into the side of the Sienna. An infant passenger inside the Sienna had life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Harborview Medical Center by Seattle Fire. Another juvenile passenger inside the van was also transported to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan was also treated for injuries sustained in the collision and transported to the hospital. The woman was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert officer and she exhibited signs of impairment.
TCIS detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. After several hours the roadway was reopened. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
