One Killed in Aurora Crash

Traffic collision detectives are investigating after one person was killed and several others were injured in a crash on Aurora Avenue.

Seattle police and firefighters were dispatched to a serious crash at Aurora Avenue North and Halladay Street at 4:50 PM Tuesday. When they arrived they found a dark-colored Toyota Prius, which had collided with a concrete pillar. The driver of the Prius, a 53-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and a passenger, a 72-year-old woman, died from her injuries at the scene of the crash.

Firefighters also found two men, who had been struck by the driver of the Prius while they were standing on a sidewalk: 28-year-old man with life-threatening injuries and a 27-year-old man with serious injuries.

Witnesses told officers that the Prius had been involved in a minor crash just prior to speeding up and crashing into a concrete pillar. Detectives are now examining evidence to determine what led to the crash.

This remains an active investigation and details may change as it continues.
