Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy and recovered a firearm after witnesses reported hearing gunfire and saw his SUV speed away in the Rainier Valley Saturday evening..
Witnesses began calling 911 at 5:45 PM to report that a black Chevy Tahoe has sped away shortly after shots were fired in the 7800 block of Rainier Avenue South.
Police arrived at the scene but were initially unable to find the vehicle. Officers found several shell casings in the area where witnesses said the shots came from.
Gang Unit Detectives reviewed surveillance video at the scene of the shooting and noticed that the suspect’s vehicle had returned to the scene and had parked at a nearby business. Officers approached the vehicle and were able to take the driver into custody without incident. Detectives recovered a Ruger 9mm handgun from the armrest of the vehicle.
Officers booked the teen into the King County Youth Services Center for unlawful possession of a firearm.
