A male has been transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries after he was stabbed by a sword on the arm by an unknown suspect and the encampment he was staying in was set on fire.
At approximately 3:20 pm officers responded to a report of an assault in the 2400 block of Airport Way South. The male victim had walked down to that location from the encampment underneath the freeway to report the assault at a nearby business.
The victim stated that there was a large disturbance at the camp and an unknown suspect stabbed him in the arm with a sword, resulting in a large laceration on his forearm and a broken wrist.
As officers were responding to that call, Seattle Fire was responding to a fire at the encampment. Officer Chris Gregorio arrived and performed first aid on the victim, including the application of a tourniquet to his arm, which slowed the bleeding until the fire department could take over primary care. The victim was then transported to Harborview Medical Center.
South Precinct AntiCrime Team officers assisted Seattle Fire Department personnel in extinguishing the fire at the camp and then searched for the suspect. Despite the search, the suspect was not located.
There were no other victims located. Detectives will handle the follow up investigation.
