A 34-year-old man up late–or extremely early–playing video games Friday morning made the 911 call which led police to arrest a woman for setting several fires in the Central District.
Around 3 AM, the man smelled smoke coming from outside his apartment in the 2200 block of East Union Street. He paused his game and, after seeing the dumpster outside his building was on fire, called 911.
The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and put out three dumpsters that were actively on fire.
Officers with the East Precinct responded to the apartment and looked at surveillance video that showed a woman setting the fires then walking away. Officers then found the 23-year-old woman a few blocks away and took her into custody without incident.
Detectives with the Arson and Bomb Squad interviewed the woman and booked her into King County Jail for reckless burning.
