Police arrested a 19-year-old convicted felon in the Central District Sunday evening after he fled from police whilst committing numerous violations of our city’s traffic and recycling regulations.
Around 7 pm, officers spotted a driver in a Toyota Camry in the 500 block of 23rd Avenue, who was speeding, turning without signaling, and travelling the wrong way around traffic islands.
Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped off, only to stop a short distance away and run from the car.
Officers saw open containers of alcohol and marijuana in the car and called in K9 Officers TJ San Miguel and Pele to help search for the suspect.
Witnesses at 20th Avenue and East Fir Street told officers the driver of the car had run up a driveway and dropped something in a recycling bin.
Officers checked the bins and found the suspect had tried to recycle a handgun.
Police found and arrested the 19-year-old suspect, who is a convicted felon on Washington State Department of Corrections supervision and booked him into the King County Jail for eluding and unlawful possession of a firearm.
