Officers arrested a convicted felon and seized a handgun early Wednesday following a traffic stop on Beacon Hill.
Around 1 AM, officers spotted a man driving a Toyota sedan without its front license plate in the 900 block of Sturgus Avenue South and attempted to pull the driver over.
Instead of stopping, the driver reversed into an unoccupied car and then struck a SPD patrol SUV.
The 49-year-old driver then ran from his car, but police caught up to him a short distance away and took him into custody.
Officers found he had a loaded handgun strapped to his ankle and was carrying a small amount of suspected heroin. The man, who is a convicted felon, is unable to legally possess firearms.
Officers booked the man into the King County Jail for assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and narcotics possession.
