Police Arrest Two, Recover Gun After Spotting Suspects Driving Stolen Car With Open Trunk

Police arrested two men and recovered a car and a handgun stolen in Oregon after the suspects drew the attention of officers by driving around with their trunk open.

Officers first noticed the suspects around 9:30 PM near 10th Avenue and Dearborn Street and prepared to stop their Ford Crown Victoria to let the driver know their trunk was open. When they checked the vehicle’s Oregon license plate, officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen and that a firearm was in the vehicle at the time it was taken.

Officers followed the vehicle on Interstate 5, called for backup units, and pulled the driver over near the 520 Montlake exit.

When officers ordered the 25-year-old driver out of the car, he stepped out of the vehicle and dropped a sweatshirt, which contained a handgun magazine.

Officers arrested the driver and passenger in the vehicle and found a stolen handgun and two additional magazines.

Police learned the 24-year-old passenger was wanted on a Washington State Department of Corrections warrant. He began vomiting and told officers he had swallowed narcotics. Medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Officers booked the driver into the King County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm and identity theft.
