#2021-062514/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 03-14-2021 at 0613 hours, a subject was confronted by store staff regarding theft of meat product. Subject became argumentative with staff as he walked out of the store. Staff followed and subject then displayed a crowbar he had, implying he would assault them if they continued to follow him. 911 was called. Staff still followed him to the gas pumps where he put his bag down and a challenge to fight was presented. Staff then backed away. Officers arrived on scene, investigated, located a possible suspect at the nearby bus shelter, had the two employees show up and provided a positive ID of the subject. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the King County Jail for Robbery.
#2021-062524/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 03-14-2021 at 0641 hours, there was a 911 report of a fire at an encampment. Officers arrived to find a significant fire being started on some pallets right next to a makeshift shelter that was occupied. Subject was in an altered state. The fire died out. Subject identified and found to have a DOC Felony Assault warrant. Warrant was verified and the subject was taken to SCORE, only to be rejected due to alcohol dependency. Subject released.
#2021-062761/East Precinct/Second Watch:
On 03-14-2021 at 1347 hours, multiple SPD patrol units responded to an encampment in a public park for an explosion that was followed by a large fire. Seattle Fire responded to the scene and suppressed the fire while SPD officers controlled vehicle and pedestrian traffic. One tent was completely engulfed in flames and another tent was scorched. No one was injured in the fire. The tent’s owner was not present at the scene. Witness did not report any suspicious person/activity prior to the explosion. SFD was unable to determine the exact cause of the explosion/fire due to the disorganized state of the encampment with numerous flammable objects such as propane tanks, gas cans, and compressed air canisters. Incident was screened with SPD’s Arson Bomb Squad.
#2021-063003/West Precinct/Third Watch:
On 03-14-2021 at 2001 hours, officers arrested a subject for hitting another shelter resident in the head with a rock. Once in custody the subject tried to flee, needed to be restrained and a Type 1 Use of Force (Complaint of Pain) resulted. Suspect was non-medically transported in an AMR direct to Harborview Medical Center. While en route the subject became angry and spat in the face/eyes of the officer required by policy to be in the AMR with the suspect. Subject booked into the King County Jail.
