#2021-168783/East Precinct/Third Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 0017 hours, officers responded to Harborview Medical Center for reports from emergency medical evacuation helicopter pilots that mortars/fireworks appeared to be intentionally fired at helicopters on approach to the HMC landing pad. The pilots reported the discharged projectiles came from a large greenbelt to the south of the hospital that contains a known transient camp. Officers stood by to attempt to observe if any additional projectiles were fired from the camp in an attempt to identify the location of the suspect(s) however no projectiles were fired in the presence of officers. The pilots advised they would file the incident with the FAA and would modify their final approach for landing to avoid the “hot zone.”

#2021-168788/East Precinct/Third Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 0024 hours, officers responded to a hazard report for Seattle Fire requesting assistance on a portable bathroom on fire. Upon arrival, it was determined the bathroom was destroyed by an explosive/firework detonated inside. The explosion caused significant damage to a vehicle parked nearby. SPD Arson Bomb Squad screened.

#2021-168872/South Precinct/Third Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 0120 hours, officers responded to the vicinity of Rainier AV S/S Graham St in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of a shooting and property damage to a nearby business. At approximately 0200, a victim vehicle arrived at SMC-Cherry Hill with body damage consistent with bullet strikes, and the occupants claiming that they had been shot at in the vicinity of the Rainier AV S/S Graham St. The round did not strike the occupants of the vehicle, however breaking glass from the impacts resulted in minor injuries to a young child who was a passenger in the victim vehicle. Officers processed the shooting scene and Gun Violence Reduction Unit responded to SMC-Cherry Hill for interviews and vehicle processing. As of this writing, the preliminary investigation is ongoing.

#2021-169231/East Precinct/Second Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 1330 hours, officers responded for property damage. The suspect who appeared to be in crisis damaged the memorial to Ofc Brenton, pulling some of the bricks out of the ground. Based on other damage in the area, it does not appear that the memorial was targeted intentionally. The suspect was gone on arrival. The removed bricks were collected and brought to the East Precinct until the memorial can be repaired.

#2021-169376/West Precinct/Second Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 1433 hours, a victim observed a suspect using narcotics on the sidewalk. Suspect asked the victim, “What are you looking at?” Victim tried to walk away. Suspect followed victim, argued some more, pulled out a knife and slashed victim multiple times on the head and arm. Suspect then fled southbound. Witnesses pointed out the fleeing suspect to arriving officers who took him into custody without incident. Victim treated by Seattle Fire, refused further medical treatment. Screened with Homicide. Suspect booked into King County Jail.

#2021-169446/West Precinct/Third Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 2020 hours, officers responded to a request from a citizen to assist in the recovery of stolen property. Officers ultimately developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for possession of stolen property. As they attempted to take the suspect into custody, he fled from officers and a short foot pursuit ensued. While being taken into custody the suspect sustained minor abrasions triggering type II Use of Force reporting. An SUV was impounded to the processing room pending a search warrant for what is believed to be a stolen piece of equipment in the rear of the vehicle.

#2021-168704/East Precinct/Second Watch:

On 07-05-2021 at 2327 hours, officers responded to multiple reports of a shooting in the 900 block of 22 Av. There were also reports of gunfire being shot from several vehicles. Officers arrived on scene and located evidence of a shooting. Officers also recovered evidence that depicted multiple adult suspects shooting off rounds into the air while in the company of a small child. Those suspects fled from the scene in multiple vehicles prior to officer arrival. Officers conducted an area check for victims in the area as well as the suspects involved but none were found. The Gun Violence Reduction Unit responded to the scene to assist with evidence and witness collection.
