On 07-20-2021 at 1339 hours, a suspect assaulted a victim by hitting him on the back of the head with a wooden club. He fled the area on foot and the victim was treated at scene and declined to go to hospital. SPD and DOC officers located the suspect a while later. As they moved in to detain him, the suspect charged at an officer’s vehicle and repeatedly smashed the car with the wooden club, targeting the driver’s window, obviously targeting the officer. Parts of the vehicle were broken but the officer was unable to get inside. The officer initially attempted to back the vehicle away, but then the suspect ran away, so she stopped to chase him on foot. At some point the gear selector popped back into reverse, so the vehicle coasted backwards into the SPD car behind hers, damaging it. The suspect was immediately stopped by DOC officers, with the assistance of the arriving SPD officers. No reportable force was used by SPD. The suspect was arrested for felony assault and multiple misdemeanors but was medically declined at the King County Jail. Hospital Guard is being conducted until he is ready for booking. No officers were injured but the damaged vehicle was towed for repairs. A Hazard Report was submitted due to the suspect’s attempt to attack the officer.
