On 07-31-2021 at 2245 hours, patrol responded to the report of a vehicle fire in the 100 block of E Blaine St. As Seattle Fire crews arrived, the Econoline style van was fully engulfed in flames. The substance within the vehicle appeared to be resistant to water, and SFD resorted to utilizing fire-suppressing foam to extinguish the flames. During the investigation, officers located evidence that indicated a male suspect drove the van to the empty parking lot. Upon exiting the vehicle, he then appeared to intentionally set the vehicle ablaze, before exiting the area on foot. The vehicle had no license plates, and the VIN placards appear to have been removed prior to the arson. No other structures were damaged during the incident, and an area check for the suspect yielded negative results. Fire Marshal responded to the scene, which was also screened with SPD’s Arson Bomb Squad.
