Patrol arrived and things appeared to be rather calm within the park, however one subject was seen walking away from the scene and entering a black sedan. That subject had a significant amount of blood on his head and was believed to be involved in the incident. The vehicle left the scene west bound on E Pine St and was quickly located by officers coming into the area. A high-risk stop was attempted to try to investigate further and conduct community caretaking on the injured subject due to the significant injuries observed. The subject exited the car, covered in blood, stating that he had a firearm. He was cooperative and detained without incident while additional investigation occurred at the park. The subject had a significant blunt force injury to the back of his head and claimed he used his firearm to defend himself and his friends. Evidence of a shooting was located within the park and eyewitness accounts seem to corroborate the driver’s story as no gunshots victims came forward or were located in the area or at local hospitals. The subject’s gun was in plain view in the vehicle and the subject was found to not have a valid CPL. The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant to recover the firearm for unlawful carry as the driver could not give consent due to being transported by Medic 1 to Harborview Medical Center.
