Detectives are investigating after a man shot and killed a 24-year-old who tried to rob him in the Capitol Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning.
Police were dispatched to investigate a shooting in the 1000 block of East John Street at 1:12 am Tuesday. Officers arrived and found a man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Officers provided medical aid but the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Patrol officers interviewed a 39-year-old man at the scene who said that the man who died was attempting to rob him when he opened fire striking the suspect.
Homicide detectives are now interviewing the man in an attempt to understand what led up to the shooting.
