On 01-02-2022 at 1215 hours, crowds were flocking to SODO to watch the Seahawks and Lions play. An hour prior to kickoff, reports of a recklessly driven U-Haul were being reported downtown. The vehicle was running red lights and driving on sidewalks, causing pedestrians to flee its path. The U-Haul made its way down 4th Ave toward the stadiums where holiday DUI emphasis units started looking for it. Officers working traffic posts at the Seahawks game broadcast its location and that it had almost struck multiple pedestrians while disobeying traffic lights and an officer’s signals to stop. Units working the game were able to lead responding units to the suspect’s last known location. Radio patched West, South, and Tac 2 together, allowing all zones to coordinate a response. The U-Haul was located attempting to hide in a nearby parking lot and the suspect was arrested. The suspect is currently being processed for DUI by a DRE trained officer.
